Absinthè returns to Cape Town
ABSINTHÈ returns to Cape Town
3 performances only : 5 – 8 December 2012
After a resoundingly successful inaugural visit to Cape Town in July, Absinthè returns to Cape Town by popular demand, for a follow-up 3-performance visit in December from the 5th to the 8th.
Absinthè perfectly embodies the spirit of the project with a simple concept. No originals, just covers
Cito and Paul have taken a supper club approach to some of their favourite songs from the last century. The duo is a laid-back meeting of two unique voices and acoustic guitars. Intended to charm those in an unplugged environment, Absinthè has entertained music lovers with an awesome show of great alternative classics to contemporary favourites.
Through jamming together, Cito and Paul found that they had similar taste in music. They thought it’d be a unique concept to keep them busy and having fun interpreting mutually admired songs by their great legendary influences such as, Joy Division, the Verve, Pixies, Placebo, House of Love, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Johnny Cash, The Mission and many others. Cito and Paul have chosen this format to pay tribute to a way of life, and some great music, with their own unique signature.
Taken from their Double CD debut album “A Rendezvous at Nirvana”, June 2012 saw the group release their long-awaited Music Video for the Joy Division hit, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” to a great response. Watch the video, here:http://www.youtube.com/
“We had such a blast in Cape Town last time, we feel as if we’re “returning to the scene of the crime” as it were; surely it’s criminal to have such fun!” exlaims Cito excitedly. “We’re thrilled to be able to return so soon and we look forward to performing in other venues in the Mother City this time round and seeing our fans there again. So, voila!!! Here we come…again!”
Fans in Cape Town will be delighted as Absinthè return to the Mother City for a second time in 2012, for some shows from the 5th to 8th December.

Absinthè @ Le Canard – Le retour
Joburg diners are in for a treat when Cito and Paul E Flynn, two of the country’s finest power-house performers, can be seen on one stage again as ABSINTHE.
Back by incredible popular demand after their sell-out inaugural performance at Le Canard late last year, they will reprise their performance at the award-winning upscale Sandton restaurant on Saturday 25th February, in an evening themed “French Affair”.
Absinthe is the acoustic rock collaboration between the lead singers of WONDERboom and Sugardrive, Cito and Paul E Flynn, where they have taken a supper club approach to some of your favourite songs from the last century. The concept is simple. No originals, just covers.
The fusion of these two uniquely diverse voices will be accompanied by acoustic guitars in an awesome show ranging from great alternative classics to contemporary favourites. Cito and Paul pay tribute to a way of life with their own unique signature performances in a relaxed, unplugged style ideally suited for this cosy setting.
In keeping with their innovative soiree concepts, hosts Le Canard will present a menu themed on “French Affair”: tantalizing French dishes, with a dash or two of Absinthe liqueur. Expect to fall in love with traditional fare, fused with ultra-modern notes, in the 4-course mouth-watering menu, with choices. Over and above an informal Absinthe tasting, guests will enjoy a selection of wines specially imported from France, notably from the Bordeaux and Languedoc Roussillon regions.
Says Cito; “We finally get to live up to our French and sophisticated name! When Paul and I first spoke about how and where we wanted Absinthè to perform, we envisaged playing at cosy restaurants that had character and atmosphere. Our first performance at Le Canard last October was such a blast for us and immediately became a firm favourite, so we’re thrilled to have been ask to return as our duo performance lends itself ideally to a more intimate performance in places such as this wonderful restaurant.”
Their programme will include easily recognisable hits that the audience love, including Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen), Clocks (Coldplay), On Call (Kings of Leon), Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) to name a few, and added to the bill will be brand new renditions, performed for the very first time by Absinthe, of other all-time classics like Who Wants to Live Forever (Queen), Condemnation (Depeche Mode) and a few other surprises that will blow the guests away, all culminating in an unforgettable evening of great music alongside fine wining and dining.
A wide selection of these musical numbers are available on Absinthe’s recently released album, “A Rendezvous at Nirvana”; which will also be on sale on the evening.
The “Absinthe @ Le Canard” experience on Saturday 25 February is a magnificent entertainment option for the mature, discerning audience. The ticket price of R380 is all inclusive of the performance, 4-course menu, liqueurs and French wines.
Booking is essential as seating is limited for this one night only musical journey experience. Their first show at Le Canard sold out within a week of bookings opening, so ensure you book early to avoid disappointment.
Reservations can be made on 011 884 4597 or lecanard@icon.co.za
